How we price used golf clubs

Every price on Golf Club Index comes from clubs that actually sold, never from asking prices. Data last updated October 10, 2026.

What we track

  • 2,244 club models across 42 brands
  • 72,482 completed sales after cleaning
  • 60,405 live eBay listings, searched every day
  • Six categories: drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters

Where the sales come from

All prices are completed sales of used clubs on eBay in the United States, in US dollars.

  • Sales through July 2026 come from eBay's completed-listing records.
  • Since then, we search eBay daily for every model. When a fixed-price listing disappears, we ask eBay directly what happened to it, and we count it only if eBay confirms it sold. Listings the seller ended or withdrew are not counted.
  • Auctions count as sold at the final bid only if they had bids and ran to their end.

How we clean the data

A search for a club model returns plenty that isn't that club. Before any sale counts, we remove listings that are:

  • a different model or a different kind of club
  • a single iron when the model is priced as a set (or the reverse)
  • a head, shaft or other part rather than a complete club
  • lots or bundles of several clubs
  • left-handed, women's or junior versions
  • accessories such as headcovers

These rules run again every week across past data, so a new rule cleans old sales too.

How the numbers are worked out

Average sold price
The mean of all cleaned sales for the model. This is the headline figure on each club page.
Median sold price
The middle sale, so half sold for less and half for more. A few unusual sales move it less than the average.
Great deal
At or below the 25th percentile: cheaper than three out of four past sales.
Fair price range
From the 25th to the 75th percentile, the middle half of all sales. Above that is pricier than typical. We only show these bands once a model has at least 10 sales.
Price trend
The average of the last 30 days compared with the 30 days before. A change of more than 3% either way is shown as rising or falling; anything smaller is stable.

How often it updates

Live listings and sold-price figures are refreshed every day.

Limitations

  • Condition. eBay records almost every used sale under the same condition grade, so we can't reliably split prices by condition. A clean club usually sells above the average and a worn one below it.
  • Specs. Shaft, flex, loft, set makeup and extras like headcovers all move the price. Our figures cover the model as a whole.
  • Thin data. Models with only a handful of sales give a rough guide, not a firm value. Each page shows how many sales its figures rest on.
  • One marketplace. Prices reflect eBay in the US. Trade-in values, shop prices and other marketplaces can differ.
  • Not an appraisal. Use these numbers as a market guide, not a valuation of a specific club.

How we make money

Links to eBay listings are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission from the eBay Partner Network at no cost to you. Commissions never affect the price data: every figure comes from completed sales.
